An automated mesh generation algorithm for simulating complex crack growth problems

In this manuscript, we expand the conforming to interface structured adaptive mesh refinement (CISAMR) algorithm for modeling complex two-dimensional (2D) crack growth problems involving contact/friction along surface and interaction between multiple cracks. The CISAMR transforms a into high-quality non-iteratively, which is an attractive feature evolution of geometry with minimal changes underlying structure. To model such problems, structure first adaptively refined updated near tip form spider-web pattern elements accurate approximation energy release rate thereby predicting new path. each step advance simulation, small subset in vicinity detected using tree data then deleted/regenerated simulate growth. construction appropriate element aspect ratios allows use explicit dynamic solver, essential nonlinear response problem caused by contact forces faces. Several benchmark fracture are presented study accuracy proposed algorithm, as well two more demonstrate its ability growing cracks one another embedded heterogeneities domain.
